Charlie Draper only took the job of finding the missing girl as favor. He approached it convinced that the hot desert sun had likely eliminated another unprepared hiker rather than a part of the Border Wars. It didn’t take long to realize his error. Then it became complicated. In less than a day he discovers that drug cartel members shot her and threw her into a volcano vent. The resulting trail leads into Mexico where his actions bring on the wrath of the cartel. The bodies start to pile up with a vengeance as he and his helicopter-flying Apache friend attempt to rescue the young women and prevent the revenge determined drug alliance from killing them all.
Recently injured in a vehicular crash that killed his girlfriend, a young forester is assigned to a new job in a remote area of northwestern Montana. He is befriended by an alcoholic logging truck driver, whose efforts to help enable both to grow into recovery helped in no small way by two women who guide them into recovery. Centered on the western logging industry, the story focuses on events that bring sudden change to an ideologically resistant area and men's unwilling involvement. Upon arriving, he confronts his hard-driving boss rebelliously, but soon learns that finding what he's looking for will require a major effort on his part. The locals, a hard-working, hard-living, idiosyncratic lot take on the task of educating their new co-worker in ways he could never have imagined. Learning lessons that teach him about surviving the horrific, he finds himself melding into the eclectic area when changing times force the locals to rely on his assistance. Just as he becomes attached to his new surroundings and the quirky inhabitants, new technology threatens his job followed by news of a hydroelectric dam construction effort planned a short way downstream that will destroy the entire valley.
An Interview with the Author
DDS: Tell us a little bit about yourself.
Born and raised in Montana, I dabbled at writing most of my adult life while pursuing various career paths. After graduating from college I worked several years in the logging industry of the Pacific Northwest portion of the U.S. That influenced me to write about some of the colorful characters I met in the many places and occupations I explored.
DDS: What got you into writing?
My first novel, Scaling Tall Timber is based on some of my experiences working in and around the logging industry. I met and worked with many colorful characters that are fictionally depicted in that book. The rest of my written work results from a mad desire to write and a wild imagination. This effort resulted in a several books, many short stories, and a few essays.
DDS: Tell us about your books.
Scaling Tall Timber is a novel based in a fictional logging town during the 1960 when the industry saw major changes both in logging methods and forestry practices combined with a hydro-electric dam that destroyed a small town and its livelihood.
Finding Jennifer and The Dynameos Conspiracy are both suspense/thrillers with lots of action, adventure and a bit of romance with strong characters. The second in the Charlie Draper series following Finding Jennifer is my current WIP suspense/thriller titled Sonoran Justice which should release this fall.
The Zeitgeist Project is a fun Science Fiction novel of time travel with a steampunk flair, that puts accidental travelers from the future into the 1870s wild west.
Running with Moose is a fun compilation of a few of my short stories.
DDS: What was the hardest part about writing?
For me writing is the easy part. Formatting, getting ready for publication and definitely marketing are the hard part.
DDS: What are your writing pet peeves?
I can’t think of any unless it would be the marketing part.
DDS: Who is your favourite Character? (one of your own creation – published/unpublished)
Definitely Charlie Draper, the hero in Finding Jennifer.

DDS: Do any of your favourites influence your writing style?
I suspect all the different writers I’ve read have each left their stamp on me. Ralph Beer probably the most since I knew him personally and learn much about writing stories from him.
DDS: One thing readers would be surprised to know about you…
When I’m not writing I enjoy woodworking and carpentry.
DDS: Besides writing, what else do you enjoy?
I’m an amateur photographer trying to master Photoshop with only limited success. I particularly enjoy taking pictures of animals and scenes of Montana, Arizona and South Dakota.
DDS: What’s the one thing that you want your readers to take away from your books?
A sense of enjoyment, fantasy and a momentary escape from day to day issues.
